Let’s start off this one with something important…Merry Christmas!

2017 was good to us, that’s for sure. We had a whole lot of fun fishing with a bunch of people. All of our goals were very much exceeded for our first year of operation and we even caught a ton of fish along the way. It’s been 6 months since we last spoke, so let’s catch up…

We are now leaving and running out of Fisherman’s Landing in Point Loma, which we’re super stoked about it. We are super grateful to have been invited in and we’re really happy to be a part of their awesome team.

We ended up having to quit fishing right after Thanksgiving this year and started on our boat work. This year we’re betting big and breathing some life into the old girl. We knew we needed to fix a few things around the boat, and got a lot of great input from almost everybody who was willing to give it. Our biggest project is outside in the cockpit. We’re building a brand new deck, installing in a new bait tank, re-painting every square inch and putting in a lot of new lighting to say the least. We’re also working on a few other projects as well like brand new non-skid on the bow, some more new flooring throughout the rest of the boat and re-doing our forward bunk room.

All those projects will keep us at the dock until the new year, but we’ll be back at it and getting an early start in 2018 with our first trips coming up in early January. We’re also going down to Colonet too, so be on the lookout for those dates coming up soon. Many thanks to everybody who’s been a part of this whole operation, and cheers to another great year in 2018.

Well, it’s been a while, hasn’t it? It’s like a broken record at this point, but we’ve been busy. We did some
finishing touches to the boat, put in a ton of money into our engines to get them ready for this season, and actually started fishing!

The past few months, we’ve taken a lot of time to work on all the little things on the boat. Little things like replacing power outlets, installing some new equipment, putting up wall paper, major deep cleaning, boring stuff like that. Unfortunately all of those things take up the most time but we recognize that those things are what makes the difference between us and the next charter boat. Our biggest project by far was getting our engines serviced and fine-tuned just in time for our first couple of charters in June. Happy engines are really what makes the difference. On our boat we’ve adopted this quote: “Take care of your boat, and she will take care of you.” It totally is true, and we’ve been taking care of all those little (and big) things the past couple of months.

We started off June with a bang with 3 straight charters. Unfortunately some of the fish didn’t quite get that memo. The whole fleet of boats so far has been having the same thought time just trying to land fish, or even trying to get a single bite with all of those Bluefin around Southern California. We’re seeing all kinds of life every single day, and also seeing a whole bunch of schools down below, but sadly nobody’s home. The offshore Kelp isn’t doing too much better lately either.

On one of our recent charters though, we decided to stay local and fish off the Kelp beds in La Jolla. That turned out to be a great decision as all 6 of our passengers limited out on Calico Bass, and even connecting on a 9lb Calico Bass! It was truly a great day out on the water, with 2 other days of great whale watching too.

We’ve got some open party dates coming up on our schedule, along with some private charters in July. Our schedule is filling up though, so make sure to get on our schedule! We’re getting inquiries every day, and booking dates too, and we couldn’t be more excited about it! But we can’t stress enough how important it is to get on our schedule so yo don’t miss out. 2017 is going to be another EPIC year for Tuna and we’re set up nicely to help you get in on some of that action.

If you’ve got any questions at all about our operation, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us via email at hello@blackdiamondsportfishing.com or give us a call at (619) 318-4509. We’ll be back soon!

Tight Lines!

March 19th, 2017

Woah! Time has been flying by since we last spoke. But a lot has been happening with us these past few months. For starters, we took our first couple of trips of 2017 (you can see some recaps of those right here), and we’ve been doing a lot of work on the boat too! We just about to finish phase 2 of our remodeling, which includes brand new bunks in the master stateroom. We’re just putting the finishing touches on that project, but once it’s complete, we’ll be sure to post some pictures of our project. We’re still trying to finish up some more things before we go into full swing with Tuna season coming up in San Diego.

And lastly, we’ve been getting quite a bit of trips scheduled for this summer! We couldn’t be happier about it too. Our schedule is filling up a little bit for this summer, so we’ve added a calendar here on our website so you can get those trip requests in and we can book you even faster. More to come! Peace!

2017 is here and well underway! Unfortunately here in San Diego, the rain is hitting us pretty hard. So we’ve been stuck inside, but we’ve still been keeping busy with some more updates to the boat. We’ve got all kinds of little projects going on, like changing light fixtures, swapping out power outlets, putting some finishing touches on our brand new floors, and touching up some previous bumps and bruises.

Once we get a break in the weather though, we are planning on doing some big things to the boat, including putting in some new flood lights, doing a little bit more painting, and building some brand new bench seating for the interior! That’s pretty much on tap for the upcoming month or so. Once we make some decent progress that’s worth documenting, we’ll be sure to post some pictures of what we’ve done.

As a reminder, we are starting to book some trips for the upcoming Tuna season in Southern California this summer, so make sure to grab your spot onboard during our inaugural season. Also, make sure to like our Facebook page and follow us on Instagram for the most current updates!

We’ll check back in soon! Happy 2017!

December 24th, 2016

Hello everybody! Long time no blog, right? We’ve been pretty busy as of late just making repairs, and making some new improvements along the way. Some of those new improvements include some painted cabinets, and some brand new flooring as well. We decided to go with some vinyl and get rid of the existing carpet that was inside. It’s very durable, waterproof, and most importantly, very safe to walk on while underway this summer.

Before

After

We still have a few last-minute touches to do with this project, but other than that, we are done with the flooring! You can go to our photo gallery to see the rest of our pictures from the past month of improvements.

We’ll be back soon with more updates on our progress. Merry Christmas, and we’ll see you in 2017!

img_2146We are finally home! We took the 6 hour journey down to San Diego from Long Beach, and there was definitely a lot to be happy about.

The boat performed well, we had some family onboard with us as well, and we turned the corner at Point Loma just before the sun set. We have settled into our slip at Sun Harbor Marina and starting to plan out our refurbishments and updates to the boat. All of that work starts on Monday as we already have some contractors coming by for estimates.

We have a lot of work ahead of us, and we’ve got some really exciting stuff planned out for the boat and for our customers. And we already have a few trips planned in between all of the work.

We definitely will be keeping up on our blog and keeping everybody posted on our website and social media pages. For all of the latest updates, make sure to like our Facebook page here.

We’ll check in with you soon!

img_2078After the first few days as boat owners have come and gone, our excitement continues to grow as our dreams are coming true. There is a lot of good that came with the boat, and there are also some needed improvements that have to be made as well.

As of right now, the boat will remain in Long Beach for a few more weeks so we can get the boat ready to bring her down to her new home in San Diego. All of our plans are currently being finalized and we should be getting to work shortly after the voyage to San Diego. Just to name a few changes we’re going to be making are a brand new deck outside, new bunks inside and we’re buying some brand new equipment as well to go with our bitchin’ new boat.

We’ll be sure to check back in a few days. Book us now for next summer here!

We Finally Have A Boat!

Today, we signed the papers, signed off on the sea trials and surveys, and gave the broker our money, and we finally have a boat to work with! Obviously, we’re very excited, but it’s really only the beginning of a brutal work season. We’ve got a nice boat, but we want to make it even nicer. We’ve got some plans in the works, but right off the bat, she’ll be getting a brand new deck outside, and some new interior design as well.

It’s currently in Long Beach right now, but we should be making the journey down to San Diego some time in mid-November.

There are far too many people to thank for this very proud moment in our careers and for our company as well. So we’ll spend a whole lifetime to thank them personally. Our brand new website it up and running, and we are now already booking trips for next year.

Make sure to click on the boat page and the photo gallery to look at your new ride out to the fishing grounds!
